Over the previous year, the BMW 5-Series went through a bit of a model shakeup, as Bimmer introduced the 530e iPerformance and the M550i xDrive to the lineup. With the dust still settling from this motion, we expect no notable changes when the 2019 5-Series hits display rooms.
2019 BMW 5-Series Design
At this time, we anticipate no changes to the BMW 5-Series’ looks. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock, as the midsize sedan simply went through a huge redesign– big in BMW terms, at least– in 2017. This generated a bigger body, sharper styling, and a brand-new platform. The interior also went through a huge change, getting new looks and 1.2 inches of extra rear leg space.
With the looks carrying on, we also anticipate no changes to the 5er’s basic features. If this proves to be the case, search for it to consist of 17-inch wheels, a moonroof, dual-zone climate control, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, LED headlights leatherette upholstery, a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and heaps more.
2019 BMW 5-Series Engine
We anticipate the 2019 5-Series to coming in with the same plethora of powertrain choices as in the past. For referral, the base 530 features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that cranks out 248 horse power and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Moving into the 530e includes an electric motor to a slightly de-tuned 2.0-liter engine for an overall output of 248 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the 540 with its 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 335 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
Diesel lovers can snag the 540d xDrive and its turbocharged six-cylinder that produces 261 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque. And finally, there’s the big-daddy 550 with its 4.4-liter turbocharged V8 that injects 456 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
2019 BMW 5-Series Safety
Safety capabilities are strong in the existing 5-Series, thanks to its Top Safety Pick+ score from the IIHS. Remember, however, the greatest ranking comes just with the optional Frontal Collision Warning with Extended Collision Mitigation that’s part of the Driver Assistance Plus II bundle. We anticipate this to all stay the same in 2019.
2019 BMW 5-Series Pricing & Release Date
There is no official word on the 2019 5-Series’ arrival on display room floorings, but we anticipate to see it in the late summer of 2018. Given there are no changes in store, we expect pricing to remain similar to the 2018 5-Series, which begins with $53,645 and peaks at $74,895 (destination fees consisted of). The 2019 5-Series’ competitors will include the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the Audi A6, and the Cadillac CTS.
